Unfortunately, the film, absolutely did not reside up to the books, and larboard me beneath than satisfied. The absolution of abounding trailers, alone acute my own about attraction with watching the accomplished film. But they are cleverly decieving of the huge disappointment of the absolute film. The story itself is highly enthralling. Bella Swan 17 years old, moves to live with her father in the wet, dreary town of Forks, where she meets the alluring and mysterious Edward Cullen - who at first, appears to hate her. Against his better judgement, he gives in to Bella and allows himself to be with her, knowing he can't live without her. The Cullen family are "vegetarian vampires" something highly unusual, as Bella quickly learns when Victoria, James and Laurent appear in town. Soon the Cullens are fighting to keep lethal tracker James from killing Edwards precious Bella. On paper, it's an exciting, moving, beautiful story, but one, that should remain on paper, and should never have been transferred to screen. Much of what makes the novel so captivating, is completely void from the film. Bella and Edward don't appear to be so deeply in love, the teasing and pursing that features in the novel simply isn't there and they barely even have conversation before vampire James tries to take Bella's life. Many of the important scenes in the novel, which make the reader believe in their unconditional, undying love for each other, simply doesn't exist on screen. Not to mention, one can become quickly confused as to who the Cullens are, their personalities and their gifts. Without a doubt the most exciting aspects of the novel are the arrival of James - the chase, Bella's dilemma, the fight, and Bella's near death. All of which seem to happen in about 30 minutes. The pivotal point of the novel (James' obsession with killing Bella) seems to occur in a matter of seconds. Understandably, not all of the novel can feature in a two hour film, but it seems the creators spent too long adding unnecessary scenes than developing the ones already there. Fortunately, the actors performances make up for the poor development of the film. Particularly Kristen's performance as Bella, is probably the most effective and believable aspect of the entire film. A highly underated actress, presents Bella as being shy as well as strong and deeply obessed with Edward. Kristen works well with a dull, dry script that does no justice to the novel it is based upon. Robert Pattinson also does an excellent portrayal of character Edward, but their love for each other just doesn't come across - only sexual attraction. Overall, parts of the film are beautiful, and one can become completely enthralled and lost in this supernatural world, but quickly one is disappointed and less than satisfied by the rushed film. I would only recommend this film to people who have read the books and don't expect too much from it - or alternatively, are so obsessed that they wouldn't realise if the film was on in revers:
